Death and Comics

It can be poignant and touching, or a cheap marketing ploy to sell more books. No character is immune to the reaper's touch, but then again, sooner or later, they'll be back.

Indie Comics Vault

Serenity: Better Days from Dark Horse Comics. Joss Whedon and Brett Matthews continue the adventures of the characters from the dearly departed television series Firefly as they pull of a heist that might be too big even for them.

Maintenance, from Oni Press. What happens when you're the general maintenance guys at a corporation that caters to supervillains? There are probably a lot of third person monogoues, explosions, and shark men.

via Slave Labor Graphics there is Gordon Yamamoto and the King of the Geeks from award-winning comic book creator Gene Yang. The time honored tale of the geek and the bully who terrorizes him is turned on its head by sinus-cavity dwelling aliens, animal crackers come to life, and magic bakers. It's mind-benidng stuff.

Mike Allred

[running time 00:32:32]

There are only a few comic book creators out there whose work is instantly recognizable, but Mike Allred is definitely one of them. While you can spot his unique art style a mile away, you can never guess what his next project will be. From breaking down traditions and barriers on his Madman series, to exploring the history of rock music in Red Rocket 7, to fan favorite work on Fables and X-Statix, all the way to his work on the Golden Plates project, Mike Allred has boundless ambition and limitless imagination. Before a signing at Neon Monster in San Francisco, Ron and iFanboy staff writer Sonia Harris have no trouble getting Allred to open up and tell us about how he makes comics.

comics from movies

We just experienced the summer of the action packed superhero movie, but making films from comics has been going on for a while now. What's more, many people didn't even know the movies were spawned from comics. In this episode, Josh, Ron, and Conor show you some of the comic book work behind the feature films.

Whiteout isn't quite out yet, but that doesn't mean that you can't check out the excellent comic it was adapted from, by Greg Rucka and Steve Lieber.

The Crow was a huge film based on a huge indie comic of the same name.

American Splendor was an amazing movie based on the collective work of the legendary Harvey Pekar, as well as artists like R. Crumb.

Ghost World is a cult film from a cult comic. While the tone is the same, there are completely different stories from the movie, so you can have more!
